I personally find this offensive myself and do cringe once hearing these lyrics, but playing devil’s advocate here: Would this be as offensive if Comedy Central’s David Alan Grier would have came up with this song as part of one his segments?

Or do people take offense to this song (CD) because Saltsman was not a comedian, and instead in politics?

From the author: Actually I have high regard for women, but little tolerance for fools. Also I don’t know why Derinda presumes that I deny God. I was a leader in Campus Crusade for Christ in College and a youth group leader in several evangelical churches for years. It’s true that my religious beliefs have changed significantly since that time. But I don’t think that’s really the issue. My point was that Mrs. Palin couches her political ambition in terms of hearing from God, something that I think is dangerous.

I can see by your comments that you have little regard for women, but, no regard for God is your biggest problem. Don’t worry though, you will not have a chance to re-think your opinion when the politics of today will make no difference, but your denial of God will be the critical issue. No need to look around when the Christian you are speaking to is gone from your sight in an instant, and you, my friend, will be left to continue your battles here on earth and in hell. Be on guard, as eternal life will pass you by and you may have a much larger problem than Mrs. Palin.

It’s hard to believe any thinking person would take these ads seriously. They look like Daily Show parodies.

Living in a reliably blue state, I missed out on some of the more egregious Republican attack ads. But having now viewed some of Mr. Davis’ greatest hits, I wonder how much talent it really takes to churn out these absurd spots. The formula seems pretty simple: Identify 2-3 candidate vulnerabilities and exaggerate them with quotes taken out of context, misleading juxtapositions, a handful of bad actors, and a sinister voice over narration. Toss in a few conservative boogie men (child molesters, welfare queens, sex educators, scary black criminals) and voila–you have your spot.

Or maybe the devil just makes it look easy for his own nefarious reasons. Speaking of which, what is with Fred’s hideous haircut? He looks like a New Age motivational speaker or a Bee Gee.

Fab post. I’m very emotional tonight. I feel like I could be walking around France or Germany or Mexico or Canada and proudly say I’m an American. Slight correction…my brother in law was never a republican (to my knowledge)…he’s always been at odds with his hawk brother who is currently in Iraq.
